Randall has more than 15 years of experience representing insurers in all aspects of coverage and bad faith litigation involving commercial general liability, errors and omissions, and professional liability policies.


Randall provides carriers with comprehensive analyses of coverage disputes involving construction defect, infringement of intellectual property, product liability, asbestos, employment, agent-broker, and legal malpractice matters, and has handled all phases of state and federal pretrial litigation and appeals. In the course of such representation, Randall works closely with remediation, forensic accounting, bad faith, and statistical experts throughout the discovery and trial preparation phases.

Before Nicolaides

Prior to joining Nicolaides, Randall was senior counsel in the insurance group of a nationwide law firm, an associate in the insurance coverage practice group and environmental group of a noted San Francisco based law firm, as well as having practiced in the litigation department of an international law firm handling both toxic tort and environmental matters.

Outside Nicolaides

Randall enjoys tennis, sailing, and skiing.

EXPERIENCE
  • Prevailed on summary judgment and obtained affirmance by the California Court of Appeal in a published decision upholding the application of an intellectual property exclusion to preclude coverage for right-to-publicity claims.
  • Numerous summary judgments for insurers defeating additional insured claims in construction defect actions.
  • Argued and obtained dismissal of insurance Code section 11580 (direct action) claims.
  • Co-managed and developed with statistical expert a database analyzing thousands of asbestos bodily injury claims and related legal issues to forecast future claims exposures under decades of insurance policies.
  • Mediated insurance coverage and contribution actions to favorable settlements in construction defect, environmental, habitability, and product liability disputes.
